A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

State of Texas Article I .23

Every citizen shall have the right to keep and bear arms in lawful defense of himself or the State: but the legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime.

The Concealed Handgun Course is a 1 day 10 hr class which includes the shooting qualification segment.

State application: There are 2 ways to approach this process

1. Recommended : Go to the Department of Public Safety web site (see related links page) and fill out your application and pay the state fee by credit card. Your app will probably not be returned by the time of the class, but when it is returned you then enclose your proficiency certificate from the course,  your fingerprint card, your passport photos and submit it to the state.

2. Wait until the day of the class I will have all the forms, you can fill them out and send them in with a check and all the other information

Your course proficiency certificate is valid for 1 year for submittal with your application.

Guns     No guns are allowed in the class room. You will need to have them to qualify at the range. (lock them in the car)

             If you do not own a gun you may rent one at the range. If this is your plan, I suggest you go to a range before the              class and familiarize your self with the rental handgun.

             If you qualify with a revolver that will be what you are licensed to carry, if you qualify with a semi-automatic you              will be licensed either type handgun.

There is no provision for handgun instruction the day of the class. You are expected to be capable of qualifying at that time. If you feel you need for basic handgun instruction please feel free to see the “Individual Instruction” page and contact me.
